DRIVE TO BENEFIT COMMUNITY
Public Invited to Donate Non-
Perishable Items and Children’s Toys
for Those Less Fortunate
SAN LEANDRO, CA – (October 20, 2005) Beginning Monday, November 1, Bayfair Center will host a food drive to benefit the Davis Street Family Resource Center. Collection bins will be stationed around the holiday skating rink and at the San Leandro Farmers’ Market at Bayfair Center. The Davis Street Family Resource Center will use these donations to create holiday gift baskets for more than 1,000 families. The baskets will include all the ingredients needed to make a holiday dinner and will come with toy bags for the children.
“The holiday season is a time of giving,? said Davis Street Family Resource Center’s Executive Director, Rose Padilla Johnson.“The generosity of our community makes it possible for us to give every family a warm holiday meal and every child a holiday present. Last year, we provided food to 1,100 families and gifts for 2,500 children thanks to generous donations from our local businesses and residents.?
Community members are encouraged to drop off donations in the form of new toys and non-perishable food items in the bins at Bayfair Center. Those who bring in cans between Friday, November 25 and Sunday, November 27 will receive a voucher for $1 off a skating session at Bayfair’s holiday skating rink.
The Davis Street Family Resource Center collects nutritious, non-perishable food for families and individuals in need throughout the East Bay. Established in 1970, the nonprofit Davis Street Family Resource Center is dedicated to helping low income families in the Eden area and its surrounding communities improve their quality of life through short and long-term assistance. Davis Street offers parenting education classes, child development activities, parent-to-parent support groups, mentoring programs, after school and academic enrichment, food, clothing, medical and dental care, mental health services, job training activities and job placement assistance, family economic literacy program and much more.
